Overview

What we do for bathroom remodels

Bathroom remodels are one of the highest-stakes plumbing jobs in residential work. Water lines, drain lines, vent stacks, valves, and fixtures all have to be installed correctly — because once the tile goes up and the drywall closes, any mistake means tearing that work back out. We work with homeowners doing their own remodel, general contractors, and designers on scopes ranging from a simple toilet and vanity swap up to full gut-and-remodel primary bath suites with standalone tubs, double shower heads, and heated floor systems.

What we typically handle on a bath remodel

  1. Rough-in plumbing — new water lines to fixtures, new drain and vent piping where the layout changes, proper slope, cleanouts, and all connections meeting Utah plumbing code
  2. Fixture installation — toilets, vanities with sinks, tubs, showers, bidets, handheld sprayers — any factory fixture with proper supply and drain connections
  3. Shower valve install and replacement — Moen, Delta, Kohler, Grohe, Hansgrohe, TOTO, any brand, any configuration (single-handle, two-handle, thermostatic, pressure-balance)
  4. Drain relocations — moving a toilet, shower, or sink drain to a new location requires proper subfloor work and vent routing
  5. Shower pan and curb installation — pre-slope, liner or linear drain, waterproof membrane, ready for tile
  6. Tub install or removal — clawfoot, alcove, drop-in, freestanding, Japanese soaking — all styles installed with proper drain, overflow, and supply
  7. Permit coordination — we pull plumbing permits and schedule city inspections for rough-in and final
  8. Repipe opportunity — while walls are open is the cheapest time to repipe galvanized or polybutylene runs in the bathroom

What we don't do (and who we partner with)

We're plumbers, not general contractors. For full gut-and-remodel projects we coordinate with your GC or designer. For homeowners DIY'ing the cosmetic work (tile, paint, cabinet install) we handle the plumbing rough-in, rough-in inspection, and final fixture install, then coordinate back with you on your schedule. We have trusted partner relationships with tile crews, drywall contractors, electricians, and designers across the Wasatch Front — happy to make referrals.

Utah-specific bathroom remodel considerations

Repiping opportunity — if your home has galvanized or polybutylene supply lines, the walls-open stage of a bath remodel is the single cheapest time to replace them. Adding a bathroom repipe to an already-open-wall job is often $1,200-$2,500 vs. $3,500-$5,500 as a standalone job. Almost always worth doing.

Water softener for new luxury fixtures — Utah hard water is aggressive on high-end shower valves, rainfall heads, and glass shower enclosures. If you're investing $5,000 in a new shower with premium fixtures, a $2,500 water softener is a small additional line item that doubles the lifespan of everything in the bath.

Hot water capacity — standalone soaking tubs (70+ gallons) and multi-head showers can exceed your current water heater. If the remodel includes a big tub or multi-head shower, we spec the water heater upgrade during design to avoid a cold-shower surprise after the project's done.

Heated floor coordination — if you're installing radiant heat under tile, the plumbing rough-in needs to accommodate the heating lines. We coordinate with heated-floor installers so everything fits and functions properly.

Basement bathroom below sewer line — below-grade bathrooms need a sewage ejector pump to lift waste to the main sewer. This adds $1,850-$3,850 to a basement bath scope and needs to be planned during design.

What Valley does differently

Same plumber from rough-in through final. You're not getting a new crew every phase. Flat-rate pricing quoted in writing before work starts, with allowances for fixture upgrades clearly called out so you know what moves the number. Permits pulled, inspections scheduled, and 1-year workmanship warranty on all plumbing work. Most bath remodels we plumb run a rough-in visit (1-2 days), then final fixture install (1 day) once the cosmetic work is complete — scheduled around your GC's timeline.

Reasons to Upgrade Your Bathroom Plumbing

Bathroom remodels happen for many reasons. Here are the most common triggers we see in Utah homes.

  • Old fixtures are outdated, leaking, or don't match your style

  • Galvanized or polybutylene supply lines need replacement

  • Shower valve is obsolete and parts aren't available

  • Layout no longer works — moving the toilet, vanity, or shower

  • Master bath addition or expansion

  • Converting a tub to a walk-in shower (aging in place)

  • Adding a second or third bathroom

  • Basement bathroom finish with ejector pump

  • Water pressure issues in the current bathroom

  • Preparing the home for sale with a refresh

The Process

How a Bathroom Remodel Plumbing Job Runs

On the truck

Cable machine, jetter, and pipe camera — every call.

  1. Design review and quote

We meet with you (and your GC or designer if applicable) to review plans, identify plumbing scope, and quote the full project. Fixture selections, valve brands, and any drain reroutes all locked before work starts.

  2. Rough-in phase

Before drywall and tile. Water supply lines run to each fixture, drain and vent piping installed with proper slope, valves roughed in with appropriate spec for the finished trim, temporary caps on each line for pressure testing. 1-2 days for most bath scopes.

  3. Rough-in inspection

City inspector verifies rough-in meets Utah plumbing code. Pressure test on water lines, drain and vent verified. Once passed, the cosmetic team (tile, drywall, paint) can start work.

  4. Final fixture install

Once cosmetic work is done and walls are closed, we come back to install trim kits (shower handles, tub spouts), toilet, vanity sink and faucet, and any specialty fixtures. Final leak check at every connection.

  5. Final inspection and warranty

City does final inspection. 1-year workmanship warranty on all plumbing. Paperwork for your records including permit sign-off, warranty cards registered with manufacturers, and photo documentation of hidden work for future reference.
