Overview

What a Professional Drain Cleaning Actually Does

Most drain clogs don't fix themselves, and pouring another bottle of chemical cleaner down the line usually makes things worse. Drano and similar products eat at your pipes, and if the blockage is deeper than a few feet, the chemicals just sit on top of it — corroding the trap while the clog stays put.

A professional drain cleaning clears the actual blockage. We run a mechanical auger or hydro-jet through the line, break up what's in there (grease, hair, wipes, tree roots, scale buildup), and pull it out. If it's a recurring clog, we put a camera down the pipe to find out why — because the same sink backing up three times a year usually isn't a sink problem. It's a main line problem.

When a drain cleaning is the right call

  • One fixture is slow or clogged and plunging isn't working
  • Multiple drains are sluggish at the same time (almost always a main line)
  • You hear gurgling from other drains when one fixture runs
  • A sewer smell is coming up through a floor drain or basement
  • You've snaked it yourself and it clogged again within days

What Valley does differently

We run our own trucks across Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, and Tooele counties — no subcontractors, no middlemen. Every drain tech shows up with a cable machine, a jetter, and a camera on the truck. If a snake doesn't fix it in 30 minutes, we switch to hydro-jetting. If the line keeps clogging, we inspect it, tell you what's wrong, and give you options — including leaving things alone when that's the honest answer.

Pricing is flat-rate and we quote it before we start. No hourly creep, no surprise fees, and we don't upsell a sewer replacement for a ten-minute snake job.

If drains are a recurring headache at your place, ask about our Quality Service Club — $79 a year gets you 15% off every repair, priority dispatch, and an annual drain inspection that usually catches the next clog before it becomes a callout.

Warning signs

Signs Your Drain Needs Professional Cleaning

Most people wait too long. These are the symptoms that mean it's time to call instead of reaching for another bottle of drain cleaner.

  • Water pools in your sink, tub, or shower and drains slow even after plunging

  • Gurgling sounds come from one drain when you use another — a sign the main line is partially blocked

  • Sewage smell rises up through a floor drain or from the basement

  • Multiple drains in the house clog or slow down at the same time

  • Your toilet fills slowly or water rises in the bowl when the washing machine drains

  • You snaked the line yourself and it clogged again within a week

  • You see wet patches in the yard above where the sewer line runs

  • The kitchen sink backs up after the dishwasher runs

  • Repeated clogs in the same fixture every few months

The Process

How Our Drain Cleaning Service Works

Valley Plumbing red and white service truck parked at a Salt Lake City home

On the truck

Cable machine, jetter, and pipe camera — every call.

  1. Walk-through and diagnosis

The tech asks what you're seeing, checks which fixtures are affected, and identifies the most likely spot in the line. If multiple drains are clogged, we go straight to the main cleanout.

  2. Clear the line

For most clogs, a cable machine (snake) pulls the blockage out in 30 to 60 minutes. For grease-heavy lines, roots, or commercial stacks, we switch to hydro-jetting — a high-pressure water jet that scours the pipe wall clean.

  3. Camera inspection (when needed)

If the clog keeps coming back, we run a camera down the pipe to see what's happening. Cracked pipe, belly, root intrusion, or collapsed section — you see it on the monitor the same time we do.

  4. Flow test and clean-up

Before we leave, we run water through every affected fixture to confirm the line is clear and draining at full speed. Work area gets wiped down — no mess left behind.

  5. Prevention and honest options

If there's a real problem in the pipe itself, we tell you what it is, what it costs to fix, and what happens if you do nothing. If regular snaking is all you need, we say that too.
